New York [US], September 23 (ANI): Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address at UN’s ‘Summit of the Future’ later today, US State Department’s Hindustani Language Spokesperson, Margaret Macleod, has said that everyone is ‘excited’ to hear his statement here.
Speaking to ANI in New York, Macleod said that each and every nation will put forward their views for a better future at the UN summit.
“Today, the United Nations General Assembly is holding a Summit of the Future. In this ‘Summit of the Future’, each and every nation will put forward their views on how we can make a better future, and what we can do to achieve permanent development. We are very excited to hear the statement of PM Modi,” Macleod said.
She stated that the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) Leaders’ Summit, which took place in US President Joe Biden’s hometown on September 21 in Wilmington, Delaware, his hometown showcased the depth of the relationship between the US, India, Japan and Australia.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the Quad Leaders’s Summit…and US President Joe Biden decided to hold the meeting and invite the leaders from Quad nations to Delaware, his hometown. And we saw that their relationship with these three leaders is so deep and this is just a sign of the relationship between our countries. In the Wilmington joint statement, we saw that India, America, Japan and Australia decided to cooperate on such a massive level, which included sectors like cyber security, maritime security, amongst other things,” she further said.
The sixth edition of the Quad Leaders’ Summit was a ‘farewell’ summit for both US President Joe Biden and Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida before they step down from their respective offices.
Macleod underlined the importance of Cancer Moonshot event which was announced on the sidelines of the Quad meeting in Wilmington, and said India has an important role to play regarding it.
She said, “As I said, it was about health and safety. A special program called Cancer Moonshot was announced. And on this Cancer Moonshot, we have introduced a new program. India will play a very important role in this.”
“They have made a big donation for testing kits and Serum Institute is also in production,” the US official added.
The Quad grouping has announced that they had formed the Quad Cancer Moonshot partnership to combat cervical cancer, a joint statement by the leaders of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States said.
The programme that will focus on expanding cervical cancer screening; increasing vaccinations against the human papillomavirus, or HPV, a common sexually transmitted infection that is the primary cause of cervical cancer; and treating patients.
The Quad Cancer Moonshot will focus initially on combatting cervical cancer–a preventable cancer that continues to claim too many lives–in the Indo-Pacific region, while laying the groundwork to address other forms of cancer as well.
The US intends to support this initiative, including through US Navy medical training and professional exchanges around cervical cancer prevention in the region starting in 2025, and through US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) openness to finance eligible private sector-driven projects to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer, including cervical cancer, the statement said.
India is committed to affordable cancer treatment through Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). As part of its broader health coverage efforts, PMJAY, India is committed to providing affordable cancer treatments to its citizens, ensuring financial protection for those most in need.
India’s commitment to cervical cancer elimination is further supported by implementation research led by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The research is focused on enhancing cervical cancer screening, early diagnosis and initiation of treatment. The results and findings will be shared with the Indo-Pacific countries in the coming years, to strengthen regional collaboration.
Meanwhile, the Summit of the Furture is an important milestone in the history of UN as it enters the 80th year of its establishment in 2025. A Pact for the Future , with its two annexes Global Digital Compact and Declaration on Future Generations, will be the outcome document of the Summit. PM Narendra Modi will also address the Summit of the Future.
The Summit brings world leaders together to forge a new international consensus on how to deliver a better present and safeguard the future. (ANI)
