Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], October 15 (ANI): As rains continue to lash parts of South India including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Dr N Puviarasan, Head, Meteorology Department predicted that Karnataka will be witnessing rains for the next 3 days because of well-marked low pressure over Bay of Bengal and upper-level trough is also extending up to southcoast in Karnataka.
“Due to well-marked low pressure over Bay of Bengal and upper-level trough is also extending up to southcoast in Karnataka, due to this we are also getting northeast monsoon rainfall…low pressure will move to inland tomorrow or day after tomorrow so till the time we will get rain for next 3 days…we are expecting heavy rainfall today….tomorrow we are expecting very heavy rainfall in coastal Karnataka and South interior Karnataka…,” said Dr N Puviarasan.
While high alerts have been sounded in several areas amid heavy rain forecasts, the Bengaluru District Collector has declared a holiday tomorrow.
Given the heavy rain warning issued by the Meteorological Department, the Bengaluru Urban District Collector has declared a holiday for Anganwadi, primary and high schools tomorrow.
“Well Marked Low Pressure Area over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal The well marked low pressure area over the central part of south Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards and lay centered over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal at 1130 hours IST of today, the 15th October 2024, said IMD in a tweet.
“It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal during next 12 hours.
