Pune (Maharashtra) [India], January 18 (ANI): A political row has erupted in Maharashtra after an intruder attacked Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence. The opposition leaders are cornering the state government and accusing it of failing to provide security and safety to the citizens.
Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that the state government is making efforts to maintain law and order situation in every part of the state.
Pawar further iterated that a detailed investigation is being carried out to check whether the accused came with the intention of theft or something else.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said, “You people asked us about the attack on Saif Ali Khan, but you people ran different stories without getting complete information…CCTV is being checked. Now we are also looking into whether the accused had gone with the intention of theft or something else. While being in the government, our efforts are that whether it is Devendra Fadnavis or me, the law and order situation should remain good in every part of the state…”
On Friday, NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule condemned the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan, saying that the attack is “extremely worrying.” However, she stated that crimes in Maharashtra are increasing.
“This attack is extremely worrying… The family is terrified… Saif Ali Khan has got stitches. He is in the hospital, but his condition is stable… I also spoke to the Mumbai Commissioner and the local police there. He said that since the incident took place, the entire police force is deployed there and the attacker will be caught as soon as possible …,” she told reporters.
“Crime in Maharashtra is increasing… Let the police investigate whether the attacks on the celebrities and the murder (of Baba Siddique) two months prior have any links,” she further said.
Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel raised questions on the law and order situation of Maharashtra in the wake of an attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan.
The former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister questioned that if an attacker is able to go to the 11th floor of a residential building, it shows Mumbai is “no longer safe”.
“No one is safe in a city like Mumbai anymore… If someone can go to the 11th floor of a residential building of a big actor and attack him at night, it shows that Mumbai is no longer safe for anyone,” Baghel told reporters.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut also attacked the BJP-led state government over the incident and asked when artists like Saif Ali Khan are attacked then to what extent the common public is safe?
The UBT MP questioned Maharashtra’s Home Minister on the prevailing law and order situation in the state. Raut further claimed that such incidents are happening on a “daily basis” in slum areas but this incident came to light because a celebrity was attacked.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police have formed 20 teams to search for the accused who attacked the Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence, leaving him injured, said Mumbai Police.
To ensure the early arrest of the accused, the police have started investigating people roaming around unnecessarily at night. Along with this, people whose names are already in the police records are also being called to the police stations for questioning.
The police are also showing the picture of the accused captured in the CCTV footage during interrogation. Last night, the police brought more than 15 people to the police station for questioning.
On Friday, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan recorded her statement with Bandra Police, regarding the attack on her husband and actor, Saif Ali Khan, at their Bandra residence early Thursday morning.
The statement was recorded on Friday evening at her residence in the presence of police officers. So far, over 30 statements have been recorded in connection with the attack.
CCTV footage from the Bandra area has been seized, and three persons of interest are being questioned. However, no arrests have been made yet in connection with the incident.
Earlier, Saif’s staff members were summoned to the Bandra Police Station for questioning regarding the case but were later allowed to leave.
Saif was attacked by an intruder in his 11th-floor Bandra flat in the early hours of Thursday. The incident occurred when the intruder allegedly confronted the actor’s maid at his residence. As Saif attempted to intervene, the situation escalated into a violent altercation, resulting in the actor sustaining several stab wounds.
Saif underwent surgery at Lilavati Hospital. According to the doctors, Saif sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a knife lodged in his spine. Surgery was performed to remove a 2.5-inch-long blade from the actor’s spine and repair his leaking spinal fluid.
While Saif is “out of danger,” doctors are continuing to monitor him. (ANI)
