Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) [India], November 17 (ANI): Reacting to the Jhansi Medical College fire incident, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday expressed grief and pointed out that due to the negligence and the carelessness of the government, ten children died and a huge loss occured.
“Sadly, these kinds of incidents are happening today… When children died due to lack of oxygen in Gorakhpur, they should have become careful… Whenever these people go for an inspection or do a surprise inspection, all the arrangements are found to be fine, but as soon as an officer or minister goes, the hospital becomes the same… Did the government give enough budget? Were enough security arrangements made?… Due to this negligence and carelessness of the government, ten children died and such a huge loss occurred,” said the SP chief.
Earlier on Saturday, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav demanded strict action from the Uttar Pradesh government against those responsible.
She stated that the incident was very unfortunate. I demand that the state government take action against those responsible for the tragedy. My deepest condolences to those who have lost their innocent children. The state government must assist and provide compensation to the affected families, she said.
Jhansi District Magistrate Avinash Kumar stated that seven bodies have been identified and handed over to their relatives.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced financial assistance of Rs5 lakh for the families of the deceased newborns.
The Uttar Pradesh government formed a high-level committee to probe. The tragedy occurred when a fire, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit in an oxygen concentrator, spread rapidly in the highly oxygenated environment of the NICU, leading to the deaths of 10 newborns.
A four-member committee comprising members of the UP health department has been asked to submit its report in seven days. (ANI)
