Delhi: Police Constable arrested for taking bribe – World News Network

New Delhi [India], October 10 (ANI): A police personnel posted at the Vasant Kunj (South) police station in Delhi was arrested for demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 and accepting part of the said amount, officials said on Thursday.
According to the Delhi Police, Vigilance Unit made the arrest after receiving complaint that upon initiating civil construction work in the Rangpuri Pahadi area, the local area’s Beat Staff made an illegal demand of money to allow the continuation of the construction work.
The information shared by the complainant was immediately got verified on ground through a discreet enquiry by the Vigilance Unit’s team, which prima facie confirmed the genuineness of her grievances, police said in a release.
Accordingly, a team of officials was constituted under the leadership of ACP/Vigilance, under the supervision of Anyesh Roy, DCP/Vigilance and overall guidance of Aslam Khan, IPS, Addl. Commissioner of Police, Vigilance.
The team, along-with public witness, laid a trap in coordination with the complainant. The alleged police personnel, Constable Amit, had directed the complainant to deliver the first instalment of the demanded bribe money (the sum of money arranged by the complainant till that time), as a designated place in the local area. Accordingly, the team took its position and nabbed the alleged constable red-handed while he was accepting illegal gratification in the form of currency notes, police said.
Further legal action in the matter has been initiated in the form of registration of FIR at Police Station Vigilance, Delhi Police, under the relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the accused constable has been arrested, police added
The arrested accused Constable has been produced before the Special Court, Rouse Avenue Courts, and has been sent to judicial custody. (ANI)
