Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], October 9 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Tarun Chugh said that the BJP’s increased vote share in assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir was a clear indication of the people’s growing confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, Chugh said that people believe in the long-term development plans for Jammu and Kashmir and added that PM Modi’s vision garnered more votes than the National Conference.
BJP won 29 seats in Jammu and Kashmir elections surpassing its previous highest tally of 25 seats in the 2014 election. As per Election Commission of India data, BJP secured 25.64 per cent vote share.
He thanked the voters for putting their faith in the party and assured them that BJP will continue to work towards a prosperous and peaceful future for the region.
Chugh said that BJP secured 14.62 lakh votes, surpassing the National Conference’s tally of 13.36 lakh votes. He added people favored BJP’s development-oriented policies over the National Conference.
He said that 1.4 million people rejected the National Conference and instead voted for the vision of PM Modi.
In response to claims from the National Conference that BJP was rejected for politicizing along communal lines, Chugh said that the fact that BJP received 1.4 lakh more votes than NC is evidence that people trusted BJP’s vision of unity and progress.
The National Conference-Congress alliance registered an absolute majority in J-K by winning 49 seats, with the former winning 42 and later bagging 6 seats. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) which was also part of the alliance won 1 seat. BJP won 29 seats while Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP won only 3 seats. AAP also opened its account in J-K as Sajad Gani Lone won from Handwara constituency. (ANI)
