New Delhi [India], January 29 (ANI): Congress’ New Delhi candidate Sandeep Dikshit has launched a blistering attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and his opponent Arvind Kejriwal over his “poisoned water” remark and said that he has “gravely accused” another government of “genocide” without any proof.
Claiming that Kejriwal is ‘lying’, Dikshit called for action on him from the Election Commission of India.
Speaking to ANI, Dikshit said, “Yesterday I wrote a letter to the Election Commission. He has gravely accused another government of genocide without any proof and is saying Delhi Jal Board engineers has prevented the poisons to get mixed with the water. How they would have stopped only Arvind Kejriwal and his engineers know this… But when Jal Board CEO himself says no such thing has happened, it proves that Kejriwal is lying. EC should immediately take action on it…”
Sharpening his attacks, the Congress candidate said that everyone knows the level of corruption Kejriwal had committed in the liquor policy, claiming that if the police investigate him properly, he won’t be able to come out of Tihar for the next 15-20 years. Dikshit questioned why the Central government is not taking cognizance of the issue.
“Where was Arvind Kejriwal during the Delhi Riots?… Where was he hiding? Everyone knows the level of corruption in liquor policy… Punjab distilleries were getting orders. Delhi government was having losses. They made liquor policy without any consultation and without telling anyone. They were giving contracts to contractors of South Indian companies who were earning crore. Everybody knows what had happened in the liquor scam. The people of Delhi need to realise what a corrupt man they chose as their CM 10 years ago… Why the Central government is not taking any cognizance of it? If the police investigate him properly, I don’t think he will be able to come out of Tihar for the next 15-20 years…” he said.
On Tuesday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena wrote a letter to Chief Minister Atishi to express his objections against the “poisoned water” remarks made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, labelling them as “false, misleading and fact less”.
The LG further advised Chief Minister Atishi to rise above petty interests for the public welfare and peace.
In the letter, LG Saxena said that the allegations levelled by Kejriwal regarding the “poisoning” of Yamuna water and “genocide” against Delhi residents were an attempt to provoke the public.
This comes after Kejriwal on Monday levelled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party, stating that the BJP-ruled Haryana government has “poisoned” the Yamuna water supplied to Delhi so that “people die” and the blame comes on the AAP.
“If this water would have entered Delhi only to be mixed with the drinking water, many people would have died in Delhi. It would have caused mass genocide,” Kejriwal had alleged.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked Kejriwal to provide factual evidence to substantiate his serious allegations that the river Yamuna was poisoned by the neighbouring Haryana state.
The commission has directed Kejriwal to furnish his response to the complaints, especially on the factual and legal matrix along with evidentiary support thereof by 8:00 PM on January 29, so as to enable the commission to examine the matter and take action as appropriate.
The Delhi Assembly elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, with the counting of votes set for February 8. A total of 699 candidates are competing for the 70 assembly seats in Delhi. (ANI)
