New Delhi [India], January 19 (ANI): With less than three weeks to go for the Delhi assembly polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Satish Upadhyay, who is contesting from the Malviya Nagar assembly constituency, said that the stage is set for the lotus to bloom.
“Campaigning is going on full vigour…People are happy. The stage is set for the lotus to bloom. The government of the BJP will be formed this time in Delhi,” he told ANI while campaigning at Gulmohar Enclave here on Sunday.
On the issues, the BJP is highlighting in the run-up to the polls, he said, “…The biggest issue is water. There are pothole-ridden roads here. Road carpeting has not been done for the last ten years. Cleanliness is not up to the mark. Piles of garbage are visible everywhere.”
“Malviya Nagar is completely out of the condition, ” he claimed.
Upadhyay is facing a three-cornered contest from the Malviya Nagar. He is up against AAP candidate Somnath Bharti and Congress candidate Jitender Kumar Kocher.
A total of 719 candidates will contest elections on the 70 seats of the Delhi Assembly for the upcoming polls scheduled to be held on February 5, according to the Election Commission of India.
The most number of candidates are on the New Delhi assembly constituency – 23, while the lowest number of candidate is on Patel Nagar and Kasturba Nagar – 5.
The maximum number of nomination papers were filed in the New Delhi Assembly Constituency and a total of 29 candidates had filed 40 nomination papers for this seat.
Delhi will go to the polls on February 5 and the counting of votes will take place on February 8.
A three-way contest is on the cards in Delhi between the ruling AAP, BJP, and Congress. Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seat.
AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections by winning 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP got eight seats. (ANI)
