New Delhi [India], August 28 (ANI): The Central Board of Secondary Education organised the “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Life” campaign at Modern School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, on Wednesday in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau.
This initiative focused on spreading awareness and educating students, teachers, and parents about the dangers of drug abuse and promoting a drug-free lifestyle.
The program featured an engaging presentation and lectures on the causes, effects, and prevention strategies against substance abuse.
The speakers shared key prevention insights against substance abuse with students and school fraternity, and highlighted the importance of spreading a word for raising awareness against this menace.
It was followed by an interactive Q&A session. The offline program was also live-streamed on CBSE YouTube channel for all CBSE schools.
The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, enacted in 1985, is India’s main legal framework for combating drug abuse and illegal trafficking.
It imposes strict penalties, including life imprisonment or the death penalty for severe offenses involving large quantities of drugs. Additionally, the Act promotes the treatment and rehabilitation of drug-dependent individuals.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) enforces the Act, coordinating with various agencies, and classifies penalties based on the quantities involved–small, intermediate, and commercial.
Special provisions also allow for the forfeiture of properties linked to drug trafficking, while the PITNDPS includes stringent measures for detaining individuals to prevent illicit drug trade.
The penalties vary vis a vis offences covered under various sections of this Act.
The CBSE is also planning to do MoU with NCB in promoting awareness of Drugs Abuse in all the CBSE affiliated schools.
Himanshu Gupta (Secretary, CBSE), Neeraj Kumar Gupta (DDG, NCB), N Mrinal, Additional Director, NCB, Vibha Khosla, Principal, Modern School and other dignitaries attended the event. (ANI)
